Richmond
(and Ashland)
10.07.2009
I suppose that I'm here now. Here being Richmond, Virginia. Of course, if you want to split hairs, I'm technically in Ashland; a small, rural suburb to the north of Richmond where my Aunt and Uncle live. It's a peaceful base of operation. So far we've had homemade dinner out on the porch both nights complete with savory fresh vegetables from their garden. I get my own room and bed upstairs right next to the bathroom. The only real drawback is that they don't have wireless and only one computer in the house has internet. I'm thus relegated to getting online but a few times a day which may actually be a good thing. I realize I've become unfortunately dependant on it to keep me entertained; however, during this particular segment of my life I think my online attentions would be more focused on what needs to be done than distractions.
This brings me to my next point. Things that need to be done, errr…. considered, discussed, and bought is a bit more appropriate description. To make me feel better I'll start with things I've already accomplished. First, I've managed to sign the lease for my apartment. Doing so involved me visiting the apartment which I've decided I do, in fact, like it. It's not huge but its large enough. I like the location as well. Its about 2 minutes away from, well, everything. For real, there's a Whole Foods, Starbucks, Panera, Bank of America, Verizon store, mall, gas, and pretty much everything else you could imagine (except, of course, an REI which I could only dream for). The second thing I've done since coming here is compile a list of about 20 possible cars in the area and their info. Now, after doing some thinking I've decided it makes more sense to go through a dealer who can finance me so that I don't start off broke with a car that also might just break. Since I want a car that will last me a number of years I want one that I'll continue to be happy with (read; a small SUV or Bagatti Veyron). So far the Honda CR-V seems to be the realistic top competitor. Tomorrow I'm investigating five-ish of them. All under 100k miles and $ 10k. I also think I may check out a climbing gym while I'm out and about. I got a bit of craving earlier today.
Sooooooo… things left to do. Everything. Actually buy a car, register it, change my license, get car insurance, fill out forms for work, pick up stuff from Duke, move in, buy furniture for my room, buy furniture for the common area, buy food, dishes, the little stuff (soap, tp, scrubbers, etc), friends, etc.
It'll happen, I guess it more or less needs to. That’s all for now. Back to watching my British car show, Top Gear. Cheers.
